A Time Like No Other

Episode 5 - James The Brother of John

Episode 5 of A Time Like No Other features Joseph Sandfort playing the role of James, one of the Sons of Zebedee - John's brother (Episode 1).

James, along with John and Simon Peter, was considered one of Jesus' inner circle of disciples.  They accompanied Jesus to the Mount of Transfiguration, for example, which John referenced in Episode 1.  James was driven and passionate about following Jesus.  We portrayed him as young but not necessarily immature.  He was probably not a rule breaker, and generally expected the same from others who claimed to follow Jesus.  Several times in this episode James refers to his wish of "calling fire down from heaven," a quote taken from Luke 9:52-56.  When a Samaritan village did not receive Jesus, James and his brother wished see the village consumed by fire, but Jesus rebuked them for this attitude.  In this episode we have again focused on the hope that was and is necessary in life, especially when things don't make sense.  For his disciples, Jesus death was confusing, because they did not understand all of the pieces of the puzzle yet.  After the resurrection, they would each come to realize the importance of Jesus' death.  Clinging to the cross and the empty tomb, James became the first Apostle to be martyred for his faith.
