Jesus and Peter Walk on Water

In the story of Jesus walking on water, we hear Jesus calling Peter out of the boat and he also walks on water, but Peter begins to doubt, he becomes distracted, and eventually, Peter sinks! But when we slow down and carefully read Matthew 14:22-33, in the middle of Peter’s fear and failure, we discover the faithfulness of Jesus. Jesus comes walking into the storm. Jesus speaks peace to frightened disciples. Jesus patiently deals with doubt. And when Peter finally cries, “Lord, save me,” Jesus immediately reaches out His hand.

Maybe faith isn’t primarily about having enough courage to walk on water. Maybe it’s about knowing who to call when you’re sinking.
